A Little about Tishomingo

In  1898, construction began on the Chickasaw Nation’s National Capital Building that still stands today at 411 W. 9th Street, Tishomingo, OK.  It is now a museum with Guided Tours available by calling 580.371.9835.  Also in Johnston County, you’ll want to visit the Chickasaw White House just South of Milburn, and the Chickasaw Nation Information Center on Main Street Tishomingo.

Many people are surprised about what can be found in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, like a spa, boutiques, antiques, museums, furniture store, old style barber shop with a lady barber, wedding venues, a Blue Angel, Blue River, Pennington Creek, Tishomingo Wildlife Refuge, public hunting and fishing areas, golf course, small casino and tobacco shop (soon to be large casino and hotel), and The Voice and Country Music Star Blake Shelton’s Ole Red Entertainment Venue located on Main Street in Tishomingo, Oklahoma.  Ole Red’s includes 5,000 sq. ft. and houses a restaurant, bar, live music and retail space.  It’s based on Blake Shelton’s hit song Ol’ Red – take a listen!    I doubt we ever see Blake with long hair again like in the Ol’ Red video, but you never know when you’ll see Blake and his friends cruising the roads and eating out in Tishomingo at one of his favorite places!  You may remember a news story from the big flood in our area when Blake rescued a local from the flood waters and drove him home!  Now that’s Southern Hospitality and it’s good to know that Blake hasn’t forgotten his roots and how to help take care of his friends and neighbors.

Things to do

This is exactly why outdoor activities will make you want to find property in Tishomingo, Oklahoma…  For hikers, bird watchers and outdoor enthusiasts, Tishomingo offers many opportunities to get your fill of nature.  If you enjoy hunting, you’ll find some great public hunting land in Johnston County.  Better yet, buy acreage of your own for hunting, camping and relaxing!  Live full-time, use it as a weekend get-away or retire on your own land!

Fishing and bird watching on Lake Texoma is especially sweet just east of Tishomingo at Murray 23.  You’ll want to check out the fishing dock they’ve added.  Duck hunting in the area is great, too!  There’s a slew West of Tishomingo in Washita arm of the Tishomingo Wildlife Refuge for public duck hunting.  There’s even a gun range in that area.  There’s also a gun range at Murray State College in Tishomingo.  For trout fishing, there’s nothing better than Blue River public fishing and hunting areas just North of Tishomingo!  During trout season the Wildlife department stocks trout every couple of weeks.  Late Summer, they stock catfish!!!

Many people who come to our neck of the woods start out coming for what they think is a one time fishing or hunting trip.  They soon ‘catch’ the fever and find themselves looking for property in Tishomingo, Oklahoma!  I’ve helped many people in this situation find their own acreage where they can invite family and friends to make memories that last a life time
