Sometimes, the best kind of entertainment can be found around a campfire at Lake Texoma where adults and kids alike can share their adventures of the day, maybe tell some ghost stories, and eat a few s’mores for sure! Lake Texoma is known nationally for its’ Striped Bass fishing. Like me, you’re probably wondering what makes Lake Texoma so special for Striped Bass? The free-flowing current in the Red River gives Lake Texoma a self-sustaining population of Striped Bass, which is a cousin of White Bass – However, we believe ‘all bass matter’! Lake Texoma is one of only eight inland freshwater reservoirs worldwide where Striped Bass spawn. They were first stocked by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation in 1965 and began spawning in 1974.
Lake Texoma is also known for its’ Smallmouth Bass, Blue Catfish, White & Black Crappie, Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass and White Bass. If you love to fish, make sure you carry a fishing pole at all times so when the ‘fever’ hits, you can fish anytime!
Hunters will find a wide-range of wildlife to hunt around Lake Texoma in the Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge on the Oklahoma side of the lake in the upper Washita arm. White Tailed Deer, Snow and Canadian Geese, Ducks and so much more! The Tishomingo Refuge is part of the National Wildlife Refuge System, which is a national network of lands and waters managed for the benefit of wildlife, habitat and YOU!
Bringing People Together
Favorite Places in the Texoma Area
My favorite places in the Lake Texoma area have one thing in common… they all bring people together. I think our world needs more of that!
Because my family likes to eat, I’ll start with my favorite restaurant in Madill, Hobo Joe’s. My mom claims that Hobo Joe’s makes the best liver and onions she’s ever eaten, and she’s had a lot of liver and onions in her lifetime! I’m partial to their pizza! You’ll also want to try Catfish Platter and the Burger Shoppe in Kingston.
You’ll for sure want to keep track of a new food truck in Marshall County called Double E BBQ. Follow them on Facebook for their schedule and keep your eyes open for the big red trailer cause that’s where you’ll find some delicious BBQ made by the Murphy Family!
Gwen Stefani’s favorite nail place in Madill must be Luxury Nails — check out the photo of her and the owner! One of my favorite places to pick up some really affordable jewelry in Madill is the Corner Drug Store on Main Street — yes, I shop in unusual places, but in my defense they have all kinds of really cute gifts and jewelry. My friend told me to check out Amazing Grace Boutique in Madill, Oklahoma — I think it’s illegal to have as much fun as those ladies do at work! Check them out on Facebook!
My favorites list always has to include Braum’s ice cream, and you’ll find one in Madill. There are lots of places to shop, eat and have some fun in Marshall County. What are your favorites?!!!
