The following excerpt from the Oklahoma Historical Society will interest history buffs:
“Atoka County was formed before statehood from Choctaw Lands, and its name honors a Choctaw Chief named Atoka, who lived east of the city. Human occupation and use of the area’s resources is documented through archaeological surveys. By the beginning of the twenty-first century archaeologists had investigated 112 Archaic (6000 B.C. to A.D. 1) period sites in the present county. This is compared with five Paleo-Indian (prior to 6000 B.C.), twenty-seven Woodland (A.D. 1 to 1000), and twenty-one Plains Village (A.D. 1000 to 1500) sites.” That is a lot of history and some of it is on Atoka County Real Estate for Sale!

There are many great restaurants in Atoka but my favorite is the salad bar buffet at Mazzio’s! Guess I’m not very sophisticated but there’s nothing like a great fresh salad bar! (And my husband can fill up on the pizza buffet and my daughter can get Mexican food next door!) I also love the Italian restaurant, Luigi’s on Court Street. It’s located across the street from the closing office where a lot of my real estate deals are closed! Another favorite of the locals is Cazadorez Mexican Restaurant on Mississippi Street in Atoka. If you have a favorite that I should include here, please send my way with a photo and description: firstname.lastname@example.org.
